Artist Statement

I paint to try and capture what the camera cannot. I choose to paint natural surroundings because that is what I most respond to and want to keep with me. My paintings are at times not what is physically there but are my interpretation of my surroundings. Sometimes after visiting a location I will start with a photograph to get the essence of a piece and then put the photograph aside and let my memory of a place paint the rest of the picture. I find that this gives a much richer result because the colors I choose are based on my emotions and not necessarily the actual colors of the location.

My mediums are oil and watercolor.
